| Martin Style B Mandolin, 1920 |
Brazilian Rosewood Back&Sides |
|
s/n: 7628
This pre-war Martin B Style Mandolin puts out a sweet tone, perfect for Celtic, classical, jazz, or old-timey music. The serial number dates it to 1920, just a few years after Martin first started making flat back mandolins in 1914. Like their other flat backs, Martin's Style B has the bent-top construction and soundboard bracing of the bowl-back style, with the back and sides constructed like a guitar. Martin retained the elegant cut-out headstock of their earlier bowl back mandolins, as well as the herringbone rosette and back-strip. This beauty also features priceless Brazilian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard with slotted diamond inlays, and original tuners and tail piece. The Style B mandolins were made from 1917 to 1939.
Condition: This mandolin's tone is in full blossom. Cosmetically, it has pick wear on the top and two previously repaired cracks on bottom sides.
