How to Tune Your Uke

For 4-string Ukuleles

Wikipedia says GCEA with "the g tuned an octave higher than might be expected." (Guess it depends on where you expected it.) We were going to give a long set on instructions, but then we stumbled on the following YouTube video. (If a picture is worth a thousand words, a YouTube must be worth a lot of Ukuleles.)

At the end of the video you'll hear the four ukulele strings plucked in succession to make a little melody—"My Dog Has Flees." Once you get that stuck in your head you'll be able to tune ukes by ear on the fly. It'll work for most ukulele sizes: The soprano, concert, and tenor ukulele tuning are all GCEA. Next stop: How to Learn Ukulele from a Ukulele Chart.
