One of a Kind
Sinker Redwood Top, Macassar Striped Ebony, and that's right, you can't have it. It belongs to Chris Lozing, a customer of ours in Colorado. Taylor made it just for him through their build to order program. When it arrived here we almost told him he couldn't have it. That's how smitten we were for the hour and a half we had it here in the store. Then we had to send it on to Chris. After all, he did design it. Here's what he said when he got it.
"I am in shock with the tone of this guitar."
John, Fred, Barb, Just wanted to say thanks for taking care of this guitar for me.
I have to say this is truly one of, if not the, most remarkable sounding guitar I have touched. I love the bass response as well as the subdued treble and expanded mids. The thing that amazes me is the uniqueness of tone and clarity of each string. Each note, whether played individually or through chords, is well defined and individually heard. The overtones and harmonics of this instrument just ring our with little to no effort. I am in shock with the tone of this guitar.
I’m not sure which individual component— whether it’s the Macassar Ebony backs and sides, the Sinker top, or the new bracing— that makes this guitar what it is, but I do believe it’s a combination of the new bracing and the sinker top. [...] I have always loved redwood and cedar tops, but this takes it to a whole different dimension. If anyone is considering a sinker top, I highly recommend it!!!
This guitar is truly a one of a kind. There are only about a handful of custom guitar builders that will make guitars from these types of woods, especially sinker wood.
All I have to say is FREAKING FANTASTIC!!!
Thanks again for everything.
Take care, Humbly,
Chris
From Taylor:
All You, All Taylor
Imagine the best of both worlds: a Taylor guitar that uniquely embodies your guitar dreams, brought to life with Taylor’s legendary guitar design. Build to Order is exactly that — a fusion of your guitar passion and ours.
Our first mission? Choice. Not just a few options that add up to a modified version of a standard model. Design your Taylor from scratch, using nearly 40 separate categories, with virtually unlimited combinations.
Mission number two? Fast turnaround. We think six months or more is too long to wait. We strive to deliver your guitar in eight weeks or less.
Our ultimate goal is to make your guitar truly yours, and yet truly a Taylor. Your local Taylor dealer will serve as your BTO design partner. Most dealers have spent extended time at the Taylor factory and are well-versed in the details of the program. The same craftsmanship, beauty, playability and tone that made you fall in love with a Taylor in the first place will be the foundation of your BTO guitar. The only difference is that you get to be the guitar designer.
Call Piccolo's— we'll get you started.
Fred Cobb, our manager, went down to the Taylor factory this year, had a few custom Taylors made for the store, and came back glowing (as we predicted). He's dying to make some more BTO Taylors, and would love to help you with yours. That's Fred at the factory, yeah, just to the right of Bob (Bob who? Yes, that would be Bob Taylor...).
You can reach us at 1.800.474.2546. Real people will pick up, we promise (Fred, John, Barb, or Julia to be precise). You can also email us at info[at]piccolosmusic.com. All of us here at Piccolo's know and love Taylors—we're ready and waiting to help you build an all-Taylor-all-you guitar.
