Campfire Guitars
Camping without a guitar is like a stick without a marshmallow. Give these a tickle:
Small is BeautifulWashburn Parlors. We've always had a soft spot for the smallish guitar. They're cozy-- you can curl up with a parlor guitar and still have room for your cat. Their compact nature also makes them ideal road companions, plus they can double as a kid guitar if you feel like sharing. Come see!
The Fall Mandolin Crop:
It's time for pickin'
Eastmans starting at $599:
We think Eastman gives the better known brands a run for their money.
Just starting out? Try an Ibanez ($199.99) or a Kentucky ( $219)
Weber Gallatin F:
Stunning natural looks highlight the Gallatin, named after the river
that runs right outside our door. Beloved by musicians of all varieties
for its punch, clarity and playability, the Gallatin is an innovative
instrument with traditional integrity. Nitro-cellulose natural matte
finish, no binding. Check it out. Don't let winter creep up on your guitar
Feel that dry fall snap in the air? That means it's time to humidify. Wooden instruments such as acoustic guitars, violins, mandolins are all vulnerable to our dry Montana air, and can ultimately crack (yikes!) if left to their own devices. (Tip for students: The Carroll dorms are VERY dry. We've seen several guitars sustain damage after only a few months.) Early warning signs include:
-
sharp, raised frets
-
lowered action
-
fret buzz
-
top caves in slightly
-
chronically out of tune
-
on a violin, strings mysteriously unwind from tuning pegs
Fortunately these problems can be prevented and often reversed with a small inexpensive instrument humidifier. The most common kind consists of a long thin sponge in a rubber tube. Soak it in water (preferably distilled), dry off any errant drops, and stick it in your guitar or case. Repeat in a couple of days. Get a humidifier today.

C.F. Martin DX 175th Acoustic Guitar
~ $499 (marked down from $699) If you can't rough it without a Martin, this is the one to take. High pressure laminate back and sides make it far less sensitive to humidity changes, while the composite neck lends extra strength. Plus, what better camping buddy than old Christian Frederick Martin?
The Ultimate Trekking Guitar
$99. This guitar sounds as sweet as a studio quality ukulele, fits under the seat in front of you on an airplane, and only costs a hundred bucks. For realz. Hear to believe: Matthew Andrae on YouTube (with custom electronics installation), or Janick. The GL-1 is designed for A-tuning, a fourth up from a regular guitar, but other tuning are possible with the right strings.
 New Guitars!

while we were unpacking but now they're out and ready to be drooled
upon. Martins, Taylors, Eastmans, and Fenders. Come see!
